Did you know...
...your contribution brings local earth science to schools, youth, and communities?
The Wenas Mammoth Foundation is a 501(c)(3) Charity Organization and your donations may be tax deductible. We are financially funded through grants, donations, and fees that we charge for our educational programs. The WMF makes every effort to keep the fees minimal so that local schools, groups, and families can experience educational opportunities to which they would not normally have access.
However, there are many different ways to donate. For example, Central Washington University is not financially funding this program, but they do support us professionally. We value having the ability to network and collaborate with many organizations to offer an enriched educational program.
Time is also a valuable resource. The WMF is a volunteer program, as we do not have any paid staff. The success of our educational program depends on the hours that our volunteers contribute.
Gift of museum or educational items are appreciated. We have had some wonderful donations that have enhanced our program in so many ways. The donations of small plant fossils, a mammoth tusk, petrified wood from trees that once lived here, among other items, are not only exhibited in displays, but utilized in the classroom. Have you ever touched a mammoth tusk? Donations like these have given kids and adults the opportunity to do just that.
We believe in transparency. We have earned the Platinum Seal of Transparency through GuideStar.org.
Where does the money go?
The funding we receive goes back into the educational program.
In-Person and Virtual Classes
Funding is spent on educational and safety supplies that are needed for the hands-on and virtual learning opportunities that we offer at the dig site, schools, and events.
Museum Displays
Funding is used to add more educational displays that enhance our educational goals, create curiosity, and a desire to learn more.
Facilities
Funding is utilized on upgrading the facilities. We have purchased cargo containers which are currently used as a classroom and museum, storage, and temporary repository. Last year electrical power was installed. 2020 excavation of a school bus turnaround. Future plans include constructing a building.
Operational Costs
Funding covers insurance, utilities, and maintenance costs for the entire educational program and facilities.
